Remember that time Emma and I went to Atlanta for the weekend, did lots of fun stuff, and geeked it up by meeting fellow bloggers human beings Rachel and Shaun? Oh right, I do, because it was this past weekend.
I’m not naive enough to think that downtown Atlanta is Atlanta, and not just the tourist trap part, but I didn’t know how really green, beautiful, tree-lined, and charming the rest is. I’m still in love with Chicago because you don’t need a car, but, wow, Atlanta, climbing the charts. (Coincidentally, these are both places where Rachel has lived. Must be her awesomeness rubbing off.)
On Saturday, we visited the World of Coke, which, sadly, hasn’t changed since the last time I was there, and probably for ten+ years before that. They do have a large collection of overpriced trinkets for sale, though. Typical. Tasting the beverages from around the world is fun, but surely half of those aren’t even in production anymore.
On Sunday we went to Stone Mountain, which is basically the redneck Mount Rushmore, where the masses come to gawk at the bas-relief of Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. Something they don’t play up in the promotional materials is that Stone Mountain was where the second KKK was founded, which makes it 128% cooler. (Not that I think the KKK is cool. I just think bass ackwards things are funny.)
The parking attendant in the garage by the Underground called me “baby.” I think there’s a real future for us.

That’s nice to know. I’m going there this weekend. Even if it’s for only 36 hours.

the tasting room at the World of Coke is the best! but I wouldn’t recommend that anybody try and taste every single flavor. i still get a tummy ache just thinking about it.

I like Atlanta, but admittedly, my Atlanta experiences are doing bid’ness with the French consulate, staying in Marietta, taking the Marta to the underground, and then busing over to Turner Field. I think I’ve had a cheapened Atlanta experience. I remember going to the World of Coke when I was a kid. What fun!
